Lion Mask 09

For the school play this year, I was asked to create a lion mask for one of the performers. Thankfully they gave me alittle over two months for the project, and man did I need it! I had never created anything like this before, so there was a lot of trial and error. But the over-all projects came out well, for a first time thing!

Easter 2008

With my stained glass background, I was easily intised with a new idea our worship pastor came up with dealing with the stage display for Easter. He had seen a pervious church create 'fake' stained glass windows with plexiglass and 'liquid glass'. I was all to happy to take on the challenge until I realized he wanted SIX 5 foot by 8 foot windows! After about a month of planning, we decided on four picture windows and two text. I took on the two text and began designing an entire alphabet to scale. Once the process of actually creating this window got under way, we knew we were in way over our heads. I friend of mine, Kalia Padron, had been designing the head of Jesus, and before we knew it, we had three windows going at the same time. Well, after countless hours, and Easter quickly approaching, we threw out all ideas but two windows and focused on them, finishing only hours before the Easter service began.

Palm Sunday 2009 Easel Drawing

Learning from my experience from the last easel drawing, this time went much more smoothly. I was asked again by Grace Fellowship to draw during the praise and worship portion of Palm Sunday (all three services). This time, however, I would be located much closer to the audience, so the pressure was a bit greater. Being expected to complete a 4'x4' drawing in just 27 minutes can be a challenge, so this year I did cheat a bit. I sketched each one before I drew, otherwise it would have never been completed in time.

Christmas 2007 Easel Drawing

This project was done during the praise and worship time at Grace Fellowship church. The service was special because it was the weekend before Christmas, and at Grace, they honor that weekend with a special 'Home for Christmas' service honoring those that have past away that year. Two artist were recruted to be drawing during the music portion of the service.

Water Bottle Christmas Trees 2008

This project was another one of my insane ideas, that when reflecting back, I should have just kept my mouth shut! :) I was inspired by a Dale Chihuly Recycled workshop I attended in Orlando. They showed how to create 'chandeliers' out of cut-up, painted, heat-gunned water bottles. Well, Christmas was coming in three months, so I go the idea to go on a bit of a larger scale with two 10 foot and two 5 foot cones (made from chicken wire) and fill those skeletons with bottles painted white. Then, we were able to put LCD lights inside the base and actually ave them change color. These trees were on stage at Grace Fellowship Church for the entire month of December. The church is set up to have the words projected on two power point screens that we were able to correlate the lit trees with, so the changed colors with each new song during praise and worship. Overall, 3,000 water bottles were used, 6 heat guns, and tons of man hours, but the result was priceless.
